With the holidays right around the corner out come the decorations a new tree, some lights, poinsettias plants  and some hanging mistletoe. In addition to all the joy you bring to you home you might have a dog or cat just waiting for all these goodies to arrive.  So what do  you think your furry ones will think of your bright lights and new tree inside their home?  A dog could view your tree as a new watering hole and attempt to drink from the base where dangerous chemicals can be found to make your tree bright and green.  Your kitty’s may think you brought home a new perch for them to climb and play in.  Don’t wait to witness your kitty hangin’ out in the tree or your dog digging, drinking and chewing on the poisonous poinsettias.Set your house up for success, pet proof  your house and decorations appropriately. Here are the top things to do to keep your home safe and happy this holiday season.1) If you put up a tree and you have a rambunctious  puppy or curious kitten don’t hang the decorations or lights nose level.Try for a smaller tree,  put it on a table,  not nose level.2) If you need to have your tree up with all your decorations on it, use something that will keep your curious critters away.  I have found this great product marketed for cats to be effective with both cats and dogs.  It’s called  SSSCat training aid.Check out this website to see how the product works!  http://www.multivet.net/en/index.asp3) If you don’t mind a little gold or silver around your tree, place an exercise pen also known as an ex-pen around your tree and presents. Here is a link to view all the different types of ex-pens out there.https://www.fetchdelivers.com/php/shop.php?showall=TRUE&PID=&kws=Our friends at  http://www.fetch delivers.com carries these items and can be delivered right to your home before the holidays.Fetch delivers bannerad500x200.gif4) How about all the extra cords that connect these lights and decorations…  A simple PVC pipe will cover all your cords and are very chew proof, run the cords through the piping and again keep them out of your pets point of view.  PVC pipe come in an array of sizes and colors these days so cover up your cords!5) And for all you chefs and holiday cooks out there keep your garbage cans covered or better yet out of sight. It only takes a second for your pooch to grab a turkey or ham bone right from your trash and then you’re on a trip to the emergency room…  NO cooked bones, no onions, no grapes, no chocolate, if you have to ask yourself if this is safe to give my pet then it most likely isn’t.I am sitting here thinking about all the crazy things I have been through with my own dogs during the holidays and I could go on and on.Instead I will leave you with this, animals are curious, playful and cleaver.  Set your home and your pets up for a wonderful holiday season.Warm wags,Molly & TalulahMF and Tulah For more pointers and quick training tips email me!molly@justpawstraining.comjustpawslogo.jpg.
