Walking for the Pet Project at Minnehaha Animal Hospital
On Sunday June 6th Minnehaha Animal Hospital held its first annual Minnehaha Barkway Dog Walk to benefit the Pet Project, which collects pet food and supplies to donate to area food shelves.
Gina (the Practice Manager at the clinic) said, “We were overwhelmed by the support and involvement of the community, raising over $300.00 along with food and supplies for animals in need. We had over 30 dogs walking with owners of all ages. Next year we hope to have even more families walking.“
Cash Proceeds went to the clinic’s non-profit Angel Fund, which was created to help save animals in urgent need of veterinary care. Food and supply donations for The Pet Project are still and you can also drop off them off throughout the year at Minnehaha Animal Hospital.
Nice work over there.
Minnehaha Animal Hospital
Has been in the South Minneapolis neighborhood for over 25 years (a few blocks north of Minnehaha Creek at 48th and Chicago Avenue). Their focus is providing compassionate, quality healthcare to their patients and outstanding customer service for their clients.
In addition to all the normal vet services the clinic also provides hospice care, grooming, chiropractic and acupuncture.
I’ve run into the owners at a few events around town over the years and they seem like great people.
48th and Chicago
On another note – if you haven’t been to 48th and Chicago lately – it’s really turned into a great shopping and eating destination (Linden Hills better look out).
I bet you didn’t know you could get all this at 48th and Chicago: Mexican Food at the famous Pepitos, breads, soups, great breakfast at Turtle Bread, Pizza at Bigga Pizza, ice cream at Pump House Creamery, coffee at Sovereign Grounds, Books at Amazon Book Store (not affiliated with amazon.com), a hardware store, tennis shop, gift store and the extra cool and newly updated Parkway Theatre.
Who Knew!
The Pet Project
The Pet Project was founded by Kimberly Carrier and it helps people keep their pets by providing pet food and basic supplies to those who are struggling. They also provide connections to basic veterinary care and information on finding pet-friendly housing.
They have been all over the place the last year and have raised un-godly amounts of pet food and supplies. We (fetchdelivers) did an event last year (pictures with Santa) and were able to donate almost 10,000 lbs of pet food – plus introducing a lot of pets to Santa!
This is what Kim says on the Pet Project WebSite. It is a great philosophy and they are living it.
“We believe that the way we treat the least fortunate among us, those with the quietest voices, those with the least power, and those who reach their hands out for help is what defines us as a society. We are people who find great courage in unexpected places, epiphanies in fleeting moments, and inspiration in the darkness. We believe that if you have more, you share it; if you know more, you teach it; if you have love, you give it.“
Enough said…..
