Thank You Mother Nature

Forced to come up north for a singing gig, not kicking and screaming, but almost, I have suddenly been thrust into”nature”.

Oh my goodness! I have been inspired by the bigness, the quietness of it all, and its unseeming lack of interest in us: its human inhabitants. And when in the midst of it, there’s this moment when I get it! I slam into this brick wall of revelation and am truly humbled by the realization that whenever and wherever I am this “nature”, I am just a guest.

The Superior National Forest in all its splendor is far away from home, but there’s
good news for those of us who are mostly city dwellers. We have a little piece of that big nature in our very own lives, communing with it everyday, in our own habitats, by having and loving our pets, feeding them good food, treats, and providing them with toys with which they can “play-hunt” and chew upon.

We feed the birds in our backyard and occasionally spot a deer or a fox and maybe even a coyote. Granted, they are not the moose, deer, fox or bear that grace the majestic north, but they are a part of the big picture that is nature’s grace.

Thank you Mother (Nature) for sharing.

  • It takes a change in perspective now and then to remind us what our place is in the Big Picture, yeah? When we go camping, we usually take our Husky with us, and in the setting of the woods, she looks positively wolf-like. And I think, as thoroughly domesticated as she is, she could at any moment slip free of her leash and collar and just vanish into the wilderness, become part of it. But are we so much more domesticated? Aren't we part of "nature" too? What are the leashes and collars that hold us back, that make us feel so separated from the world around us?
